Nationwide incidence rises to 191.5 – Christmas markets only for vaccinated and convalescent people?
The nationwide seven-day incidence has again increased significantly. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gave the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants and week on Sunday morning at 191.5. More in the live ticker.
Dhe Robert Koch Institute reports 23,543 new positive tests. That is 6,656 more than on Sunday a week ago, when 16,887 new infections were reported. The seven-day incidence rises to 191.5 from 183.7 the previous day.
The value indicates how many people per 100,000 inhabitants have been infected with the corona virus in the past seven days. 37 other people died related to the virus.
This increases the number of reported deaths to 96,525 within 24 hours. In total, around 4.77 million corona tests have so far been positive in Germany.

5.35 a.m. – Stricter measures in Bavaria
According to the state government, there are currently 552 patients with Covid-19 in intensive care units in Bavaria. This means that the state’s hospital traffic light has jumped to warning level yellow. From Sunday, stricter corona measures will apply in Bavaria. Wherever the 3G rule previously applied, 3G-PLUS now applies. People who have not been vaccinated or who have not recovered must present a negative PCR test. A negative rapid test is no longer enough. FFP2 medical masks are now standard. However, this does not apply to schoolchildren. Only those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered have access to facilities such as clubs and discos.
3.25 a.m. – German Medical Association calls for a return to free rapid tests
The German Medical Association calls for the return to free rapid tests. “The new regulation must now come quickly, if possible with the amendment of the Infection Protection Act in mid-November,” says medical president Klaus Reinhardt to the newspapers of the Funke media group according to the preliminary report. The end of the reimbursement of costs for corona citizen tests did not motivate those unwilling to be vaccinated. Especially in the cold season with many indoor leisure activities, low-threshold, free test offers are needed again to slow down the spread of the virus, including those who have been vaccinated. Comprehensive tests are only effective if the 3-G and 2-G rules are consistently applied and monitored.
3.05 a.m. – Greens parliamentary group leader Katrin Göring-Eckhardt demands tightening of the corona rules
The Greens parliamentary group leader Katrin Göring-Eckhardt calls for a tightening of the corona rules and more tests in nursing homes, companies and schools. “We need clear and binding regulations for 2G in public life in the federal states,” says Göring-Eckhardt to the newspapers of the Funke media group according to the preliminary report. The federal government wants to create the basis for this with changes to the Infection Protection Act. The regulations would then also have to be enforced and monitored. If the measures in nursing homes are not sufficient, proof of vaccination must also be considered there.
2.13 a.m. – Christmas markets and carnival events only for vaccinated and convalescent?
The Association of Towns and Municipalities promotes opening Christmas markets and carnival events only to those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered. “At Christmas markets or carnival events, which are regularly carried out by private organizers, they are free to rely on 2G rules from the outset,” says General Manager Gerd Landsberg to the newspapers of the Funke media group. It is also understandable if a federal state with high incidences and a low vaccination rate like Saxony orders the 2G rule. Hopefully this will induce some doubters to get vaccinated after all.
0.15 a.m. – Traffic light plans successor law for the epidemic emergency
In view of the high rate of new infections in Germany, the traffic light groups are currently discussing the introduction of additional measures for the successor law for the epidemic emergency. According to a preliminary report by “Bild am Sonntag” based on information from negotiating circles, the SPD, Greens and FDP are planning a daily test obligation for employees and visitors in nursing homes, regardless of whether they have been vaccinated or recovered.
The corona premium for clinics should be reactivated. Hospitals would receive state compensation if they kept part of their intensive care beds free for possible corona patients. In order to speed up the booster vaccinations for seniors, doctors should be obliged to write to their elderly patients and inform them about the third vaccination. However, the traffic light groups wanted to forego a lockdown for unvaccinated people or a nationwide 2G rule for public life. Above all, the FDP is strictly against it.
