Haymarket Films & Lowkey Films, in association with Lipsync Productions, Limelight CTL & Hyprr Films are delighted to announce that principal photography has begun this week on KINDLING, a coming-of-age feature film written and directed by Connor O’Hara. Kindling stars George Somner (Sex Education, This is Going to Hurt), Conrad Khan (BAFTA rising star nominee, County Lines), Wilson Mbomio (The Witcher), Mia McKenna Bruce (Persuasion, The Witcher), Rory J Saper (Find Me in Paris, The Legend of Tarzan), Kaine Zajaz (Our Girl, Cherry), with Geoff Bell (Kingsman: The Secret Service, His Dark Materials) and Tara Fitzgerald (Game of Thrones, Exodus: Gods and Kings).
Kindling is produced by Lowkey Films’ co-founder Jamie Gamache (Dear Future Children, Winner of Audience Award at Hot Docs), and Lipsync Productions’ Mark Foligno (executive producer of Academy Awards’ Best Picture winner The King’s Speech, BAFTA winning Moon). Executive Producers include Andrew & Terry Loveday (Haymarket Films), Norman Merry & Peter Hampden (Lipsync Productions) and Rachel Warren & Carl Shepherd (Hyprr Films).
Based on writer/director Connor O’Hara’s own experience of losing two friends within two days of each other at the impressionable age of 21, Kindling is the story of a group of young men at their most vulnerable – as they grapple with grief and mortality whilst rallying together to make one friend’s last days, the best of his life.
With summer surrounding them, eight lives come together as they search for memories as one approaches the end of his life.
Director/writer Connor O’Hara said To have spent the last 6 years finessing and growing with this script, it feels incredible to have a cast and crew alongside us that are taking such a personal story and making it a reality. As we start principal photography I feel incredibly proud to be bringing these true and honest characters to life and to be showing a positive exploration into how humans cope with grief.”
Producer Jamie Gamache added “Despite all the difficulties with COVID, the unprecedented demand in the UK film industry for kit & crew and numerous other hurdles we’ve experienced in the last 6 years, it feels so good to finally be shooting Kindling. Connor has written such a powerful story of youth, loss and love and for me it’s exactly the sort of story audiences need right now.”
