Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings is becoming the sensation of audiences and Marvel fans. Between its spectacular visuals, the exploration of Asian culture from a look outside the forced representation and the stimulating sequences of hand-to-hand fights, the film is conquering everyone who still has an interest in the MCU. However, as with any film in this universe, the post-credit scenes are also an element of imperative tradition and Shang-Chi has surprised us all with two of them that perhaps turn out for many, as some of the best that anyone has had. of these movies.
Of course, to continue reading this text, it is recommended that the reader has already seen the film and thus does not miss any surprises. And it is that without a doubt, one of the scenes is quite exciting and also sows various doubts about its meaning for the future of this universe. Although Shang-Chi is the new-found hero, his post-credit scenes have quickly allowed him to enter the “circus” that the entire MCU stands for in a big way. We go step by step.
First scene: the origin of the rings
Shang-Chi’s first post-credit scene focuses on finding the origin of the rings. Wong is in the company of Shaun and Katy with the rings on some kind of table, in what is presumed is the Sanctum Sanctorum of Doctor Strange in New York. However, there are not only two more holographic figures present at the meeting to help. Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) in his human form and Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) argue about the material of the rings and both agree that they are unaware of the technology of which they are made. It’s not alien, Carol Danvers claims, and its age far predates the 1,000 years it was in the possession of Shaun’s father, Banner confirms.
The funny thing here is that the rings as such have changed their configuration a bit from the comics. In comics the rings are literal, that is, they are worn on the fingers of the hands and each one of them has some specific function or power. In the tape we have seen this altered, so anything about its origin could happen. While longtime fans probably know that the rings were created by an alien race of dragons called the Makluans, it seems that their designation here will be a bit different.
On the other hand, the scene ends with a detail that they have found inside the rings: they function as a beacon that sends a signal throughout the universe to an unknown destination. Could it be that this somehow connects with the celestials and the eternal? No one seems to have any idea what this means, but Wong is quick to warn new characters that they have stepped forward into a world from which there is no longer a return. So with an ominous message is that Shang-Chi is welcomed to the MCU.
Details to be considered:
- Bruce Banner is no longer in Hulk mode, even though it looked like he would stay that way
- Doctor Strange is conspicuous by his absence, surely unleashing the multiverse and trying to put it back together.
- Captain Marvel has returned to long hair, ditching that 90s punk look we saw in Avengers Endgame
- Wong has started to conduct his own investigations, he is no longer a sidekick
Post-Credit Scene Two – The Ten Rings
At the end of the film, after the death of his father, Shaun entrusts his sister Xialing to dismantle the organization of The Ten Rings that had been the empire created by their father. She instead follows a different path and during the second scene we witness that she has taken the organization as her own. «Let’s get started. We have a lot of work to do, ”he tells Razor Fist as the camera sweeps through the complex that once belonged to his father and which has now been modernized and customized in Xialing’s own style.
At the end of the scene a legend appears «The Ten Rings will return». While the first post-credits scene seems more tied to the fantastic and cosmic elements of what the MCU will be in the future, this second sequence keeps the story down-to-earth, anticipating that the terrorist organization will have a lot of juice to draw and plenty of headaches to deal with for Marvel’s most earthly heroes.
Gone is Hydra, so perhaps The Ten Rings are now the problem that the new Captain America, played by the former Falcon (Anthony Mackie), will have to overcome in order to save the world. Another possibility is that this organization is who is behind Countess Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), whom we met in Black Widow and in Falcon and the Winter Soldier. All of this will be a problem for Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), John Walker (Wyatt Russell), and more.
Details to be considered:
- The new Ten Rings have allowed the entry of female combatants
- Xialing’s character still has a lot of future in the MCU with various ambiguities
- All this could lead to the presentation of the Society of the Five Weapons
