New lawyer works in defense of Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara

The Freelance Artist Luis Manuel Otero Alcantara works with a new lawyer in his defense for the alleged crimes of aggravated contempt, public disorder, instigation to commit a crime and outrage against national symbols, for which he has been detained since the 11J protests.

“Luis has a new lawyer, with whom he is working on a new legal strategy, despite being aware that we live in a context of complete legal vulnerability and that lawyers are threatened by State Security if they try to go beyond what is allowed”, detailed this Tuesday a publication of the San Isidro Movement on Otero Alcántara’s profile on Facebook.

The information indicates that this Monday, December 20, relatives of Luis Manuel They visited him in the maximum security prison of Guanajay where he is a prisoner waiting to be tried by the courts of the regime.

After that visit by his relatives, who are not sure if they will be able to visit him again, it was learned that the leader of Movimiento San Isidro suffers from seborrheic dermatitis, due to stress and uncertainty.

Family members also said that they blocked his phone card with which he could make international calls.

They also recalled that the San Isidro Movement has been accompanying Luis Manuel in his unjust legal situation, and for this they have had the legal advice of organizations such as Cubalex, in addition to continuing to make international complaints as soon as a forum or platform allows it.

“One of the most recent legal actions we took was the delivery of a Habeas Corpus. However, the Provincial People’s Court of Havana on the 12th of November claimed in its response that ‘it was not appropriate’ “, they state in the publication of the aforementioned social network.

They also recalled that Luis Manuel in his seven years of systematic political activism, has had about “60 arbitrary arrests of short duration, police surveillance, a state of siege, the cutting of several telephone lines, defamation in the national press, violation of his privacy, threats to friends, neighbors and family; police beatings; and his current incarceration in the maximum security prison of Guanajay located in the province of Artemisa ”.

“We remain connected with Luis Manuel and with the rest of the political prisoners because there is no other way to conceive of Cuba right now,” the publication concludes.
