The tone hardened, Tuesday 1is June, in the battle for the regional elections in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (PACA), while outgoing President Les Républicains, Renaud Muselier, filed a complaint against his far-right rival, Thierry Mariani, whom he accused of “Spread of false news during an election period”.
At the origin of this complaint, revealed by the daily Nice morning, tweets from the leader of the National Rally, former Sarkozy minister, affirming that Renaud Muselier and his predecessor Christian Estrosi had hired, in five years at the head of the region, more people in their cabinet and in the communication service than for transport security. “With me, passenger safety will come first”, concluded Mr. Mariani. A ” lie “, assures Renaud Muselier, reproaching his opponent, with whom he is neck and neck in the polls, to install “For a month a climate of permanent ‘fake news'”.
Mr. Muselier assures, attestation of his general manager of the supporting services, to have “Recruited 80 people for rail safety (…). At the same time, the communications workforce went from 64 in 2016 when we arrived, to 61 today ”. ” It is (…) patent that Mr. Mariani’s tweets go far beyond (in terms of additional public funds) the polemical tone that befits electoral campaigns ”, asserts Mr. Muselier’s lawyer, Xavier Cachard, in his complaint.
The staff of the cabinet pointed out by the audit chamber
In October 2020, the regional chamber of accounts of Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur had pinned the personnel management of the PACA regional council between 2015 and 2018, denouncing a number of cabinet employees greater than that provided for by law, while recognizing that the region presented “A generally satisfactory financial situation”.
Several polls have given Thierry Mariani the lead in the first round of future regional elections since the start of the campaign, then winning in the second round in the event of a triangular with Mr. Muselier and the candidate of the left and environmentalists, Jean-Laurent Felizia. In the event of a duel in the second round, MM. Muselier and Mariani are given shoulder to shoulder.
