Thierry Mariani, the candidate supported by the National Rally (RN) in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (PACA), will he be prevented from voting for his own list on June 20 and 27? This is the objective, political and symbolic, that the five inhabitants of Avignon are aiming for, who have filed a petition before the city court on Tuesday, June 8, to request the removal of Mr. Mariani from the electoral lists.
Among the applicants: a regional councilor Les Républicains (LR), Michel Bissière, delegate in charge of culture, and two other LR members, Michel Rabemahefa and Serge Perramond, members of the committee of the 1re constituency of Vaucluse. Unequivocally, the request is brought by Xavier Cachard, the historical lawyer of the president (LR) of PACA, Renaud Muselier, who is competing for his re-election and of which Mr. Mariani is the main rival.
The action of these supports of the candidate LR, to which are added two Avignon women who ensure “Act as citizens”, relies largely on the revelations of Chained duck June 2. In this edition, the weekly has shown that Mr. Mariani had, in order to register, in 2020, on the electoral lists of the capital of Vaucluse, justified by his domicile in the town by the rental lease of a furnished apartment. . An apartment, owned by one of the local figures of the RN, in which the candidate recognizes, in his response to the weekly, “Not to spend your life, but to have slept there sometimes”.
In the same article, Mr. Mariani confirms that he has not paid housing tax in the town, finally providing proof that a notice has been issued to him for the year 2020 by the tax administration.
Available for hire
Acting within the period of seven days after the official publication of the electoral lists, on May 28, the applicants consider, in view of these elements, that Mr. Mariani does not have his real domicile in Avignon and has not lived there for six. months continuously. Two of the conditions necessary to be present on the lists.
To support their demonstration, they add some additional details, tending to prove that the apartment does not show signs of occupancy. Thus, a bailiff, mandated by the applicants, went to the declared address and reports the testimony of a neighbor who ensures that the “Apartments are seasonal rentals (…) and that she does not know the occupants, due to constant changes ”.
