Krysten Ritter offers an eager response to the question of her iteration of Jessica Jones returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the future. The second MCU series from Netflix following Daredevil, the story centered on its titular former superhero as she opens her own detective agency in New York, facing numerous demons from her past including the origin of her powers and her villainous super-powered ex Killgrave. Ritter starred in the series alongside David Tennant, Rachael Taylor, Eka Darville and Carrie-Anne Moss, with Mike Colter making his MCU debut as Luke Cage in season 1 before leading his own series.

Premiering in 2015, Jessica Jones received rave reviews from critics for its noir tone and exploration of heavier topics including rape, assault and post-traumatic stress disorder, though seasons 2 and 3 would see the reviews gradually lessen. Following Netflix’s deal with Marvel Television expiring as the latter was folded into the umbrella Marvel Studios, Jessica Jones would be cancelled with season 3 alongside Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Punisher and would be the last to air new episodes on the streamer. With the contracts now opening the doors for the characters of each series to make their way back to the Disney-produced MCU, Ritter’s Jones is one many are eager to see return, including the actress herself.

In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant for the upcoming dark fantasy film Nightbooks, Ritter opened up about her time with Jessica Jones. When posed with the question of returning to the MCU in the future, she couldn’t confirm whether anything is in the works but offered an eager and optimistic response to the prospect of coming back. See what Ritter said below:

“I would absolutely just die to play Jessica again. I had the best time doing it and I just love her so much. I’m so proud of that character. Not only because it was like a great role and she’s such a bad-ass, but that character has really resonated with people in a way that I don’t know who else has. Really, really resonated with women and girls, trauma survivors. It’s just so, so big and such a thing I’m so grateful to have been a part of. So if there’s ever an opportunity for me to put on those boots, I will be there in a flash.”

Though the show began to diminish in quality with each subsequent season, there was no denying that Jessica Jones was one of the better efforts from Netflix’s MCU lineup and was a disappointment to see conclude too soon. Many of the actors have understandably since expressed their desire to return to their characters, though Ritter’s answer is interestingly one of the more optimistic of the group, with actors such as Jon Bernthal and Colter expressing their gratitude for the fan following and an openness to revisit the characters while also noting they rarely think about it years later. While this eagerness from Ritter doesn’t indicate any plans properly being in the works for her or her character, it should come as a comfort to see the actress ready to jump at the call and don the boots once more.

Two years after Jessica Jones‘ cancellation and the expiration of Netflix’s hold to the Marvel characters, fan speculation is certainly buzzing about how soon they could appear and in which titles they would make their “proper” MCU debuts. With Spider-Man: No Way Home breaking open the multiverse properly alongside Loki, the biggest theory at the moment is Charlie Cox’s return as Daredevil, who has reportedly been seen on the set of the film as his lawyer alter ego Matt Murdock. Only time will tell whether Marvel Studios is finally bringing the Netflix Defenders roster into the fold when Spider-Man: No Way Home arrives in theaters on December 17.
