Circular line of the Lisbon Metro forces the vacancy of four buildings ‘after the New Year’

The project for the circular line of the Metropolitano de Lisboa will force the temporary vacancy of four buildings, including 25 houses, a process that will take place “only after the New Year period”, the company told Lusa this Monday.

In response to Lusa, Metropolitano de Lisboa explained that the need to vacate the properties arises within the scope of the expansion project for the creation of the circular line and the construction of the new Estrela and Santos stations, in which “technical inspections were carried out on several buildings , with situations requiring in-depth analysis in four buildings having been detected: three in Travessa do Pasteleiro and another, in the same complex, but with an entrance on Avenida Dom Carlos I”.

“In this situation, 25 houses are identified and five fractions allocated to economic activities, including two local accommodations”, indicated the transport company, assuring that the owners and/or owners were informed, as of October, of the need to vacate the properties for that an “even more technical and rigorous” diagnosis is carried out.

In a statement sent last Monday night, the company details that “33 fractions were identified to be temporarily occupied by the Metropolitan. The owners of three of them have already signed the agreement proposed to them and 20 have already accepted it, awaiting up the respective signature”.

So far, the total compensation is 125 million euros.

In addition to communicating with the affected people, “Metropolitan de Lisboa offered to undertake the temporary relocation of residents who need and express this will” and informed that “it will indemnify, in accordance with the law, the losses that predictably the eviction of fractions may cause”.

These values will be determined by an expert evaluator of the Ministry of Justice and, according to the company, “should be sufficient to fully cover the costs of an equivalent relocation and to cover the entire cost differential of the residents, for example in terms of food or other daily costs that are aggravated by the displacement of residents”.
