Just last year Taron Egerton stood around a table where he shared a place with Elton John and other members of the cast of the film Rocketman, to take the stage and accept the Golden Globe award for Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical in a movie.
Without a doubt, an exceptional work that well earned him this recognition. And, Egerton, originally from Birkenhead, England, not only played Sir Elton John, he also danced and sang each of the 22 tunes on the tape. An exhaustive work, which places him in the category of the most complete actors in the film industry in the world.
With this achievement, it is not surprising that a firm of the stature of Montblanc has set its sights on him to redefine what success means and add it as the banner of its new campaign “What Moves you, makes you”, whose mission is to inspire people express their full potential, but on their own terms, and celebrate. to those who have found a very original way to rewrite the codes of success in the 21st century.
In addition, for this campaign, Montblanc has surrounded itself with two other successful characters. On the one hand, the film director and screenwriter Spike Lee, and on the other the singer, actor and writer of Chinese origin Chen Kun, who together with Egerton complete this trilogy that they have baptized as “Mark Makers”. And to explore a little more about Taron Egerton, Montblanc’s Mark Maker, we caught up with him exclusively.
When you delve into a character’s biography as deeply as with Elton John, does the character accompany you for life?
Up to a point I suppose so. I am not an actor of. method, but I definitely felt very immersed in the process of making that movie and the results are something of it. that I am very proud. I can’t imagine feeling different about it in the future, so to some extent it will stick with me.
Major projects like Kingsman, Robin Hood. Do you like the world of superheroes and adventure?
Of course. I think that, as a large percentage of the world thinks, there is something very exciting to see. ordinary people do extraordinary things. Great dramas always have characters that. they go through changes and I think that’s why people also love superheroes; it’s nice to see the metamorphosis.
How do you feel about Montblanc?
It is wonderful to be associated with a firm that brings together ideas of practicality and elegance. I work in an industry. creative and Montblanc is a tremendously creative house. All of their products can be used to organize and facilitate creative work.
How important is fashion to you?
I think fashion can mean several things. I can’t boast of being someone who avidly follows the world of fashion, but I do enjoy great design of all kinds. I enjoy anything that makes sense of craftsmanship, which, of course, fashion does.
What other real life character would you like to play?
I’m not sure. And even though I’m not the right actor, I would love to see a great David Bowie movie.
Do you like the universe of watches, watchmakers and the beauty of time?
I have a special weakness for watches. I mentioned that I loved everything that involves craftsmanship and I think watchmaking epitomizes it. It is such a nimble and mysterious item and it almost seems impossible that it was designed or manufactured by one person. There is almost something organic about a beautiful watch and I love that.
How important is time to you?
My feelings about the weather have definitely changed lately. I think turning 30, and being a young person, has made me reflect on my life and where I’m going. Time is relative to how many good times you have and how satisfied you are. I’ve lived a great life so far, full of really cool people, so I have no regrets.
Montblanc is a leader in writing instruments, do you like to write? Do you put a lot of notes in your scripts?
I love writing. Not so much as a creative quest, more to clear my thoughts and help me focus. When I’m working on a movie, I make big nonsensical notes that really help me find my way to a performance.
As an artist, does music excite you as much as movies?
Absolutely. I would say that music is one of my passions as much as cinema. I love singing and I love discovering new music. Listening to music is the first thing I do in the morning and the last thing I do at night.
What are your passions beyond the big screen? What moves you?
My interests are pretty typical. I like to read and spend time with friends. I do a lot of camping and lately I do sea kayaking. An important element is maintaining good relationships with family and friends. I am constantly amazed at how lucky I am to have such wonderful people in my life. I feel very lucky about it.
A wish for the future?
I would like to continue working and fulfill myself in a creative way. Another thing I wish for the future is that my job allows me to travel the world, have good health and happiness for myself and for those I love. I don’t know if you can ask for much more.
