Lionsgate announces The Green Knight will hit shelves in October and special features for David Lowery’s adaptation of the Arthurian epic. Based on the poem “Sir Gawain and the Green Knight,” the story revolves around King Arthur’s titular nephew as he embarks on a journey to test his courage by facing the Green Knight to complete a bargain set forth by the mystical being. The cast for The Green Knight is led by Dev Patel as Gawain alongside Alicia Vikander, Joel Edgerton, Sarita Choudhury, Sean Harris, Ralph Ineson, Barry Keoghan, Erin Kellyman and Kate Dickie.
Lowery has been attached to The Green Knight since late 2018 when he signed on to write and direct a retelling of the iconic poem with A24, Ley Line Entertainment and Bron Studios set to finance. Despite having concluded production early the following year, the film would find its release frequently delayed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and Lowery’s initial dissatisfaction with the original cut. The Green Knight finally hit theaters in the U.S. on July 30 and scored rave reviews from critics and becoming a modest box office success, grossing over $18 million against its $15 million budget.
Just two months after the long-awaited film hit theaters, Lionsgate has announced that The Green Knight will officially be coming to shelves on 4K Ultra-HD, Blu-ray, DVD and digital platforms on October 12. The studio has also revealed the special features included on all versions of the film, including a making-of featurette for the Arthurian epic. Check out the special features and home media cover below:

Though audiences have been more divided on the film, critics have hailed The Green Knight as one of the best adaptations of a King Arthur tale and its impending home media arrival should come as exciting for those who fell in love with it. Given the film’s massive scope in its characters and story as much as in its visuals, it’s one that invites multiple viewings to fully immerse oneself in everything Lowery puts into the film. The latter element of the film should certainly make the 4K Ultra-HD version of the film a must-have for fans looking to get the best-looking experience for the fantasy epic.
The special features for The Green Knight are also an exciting draw for those looking to get further insight into Lowery’s efforts to bring the 14th century poem to life. Taking viewers behind the scenes at everything from a general making-of featurette to specifically highlighting the film’s unique visual effects and title designs seen for each chapter, the special features are a treasure trove for fans. The wait won’t be long as The Green Knight comes to shelves on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, DVD and digital platforms on October 12.
