THE ARMCHAIR DE ODA

By: Odalin Martin

Today is Halloween night and in 2020 we have had something to scare ourselves with since the beginning of the year, but we better talk about the film genre. Recently, science named the 10 best horror movies in history, the study was based on 50 volunteers who watched the 50 most terrifying movies and were monitored heartily, in this way they made the analysis.

The most surprising thing about this study was that among the 50 titles shown to the volunteers were horror classics, highly rated by critics, such as The Exorcist O The glow, but none of them managed to enter the top 10. Instead, in the 10 positions we find more modern works.

10-. The Guests (2015)

In position number 10 we find the feature film by M. Night Shyamalan. He introduces us to Rebecca and Tyler who are preparing to spend a week at their grandparents, John and Doris, home. The boys, who had never met their grandparents, want to make a documentary of the experience, but when they start spending time with their grandparents they realize that something is not quite right.

This film starring Olivi DeJonge, Ed Oxenbould, Deanna Dunagan and Peter McRobbie entered the list of the most terrifying films.

I can tell you that it is an interesting story, with good moments of suspense, but that I do not think they are strong enough to enter this top.

9-. The Descent (2005)

The descent It is a film that brings us a group of friends who decide to go exploring caves, but the expedition does not go quite well and they end up in an unexplored place, with no way out and with totally terrifying creatures.

It is directed by Neil Marshall and Natalie Mendoza, Shauna Macdonald, MyAnna Buring, Saskia Mulder and Alex Reid.

Without a doubt, this is one of the best horror films of this millennium, it has the suspense and the necessary creatures to get your pulse racing, and it is also an excellent feminist production.

8-. Babadook (2014)

Babadook He tells us about a widow who has problems with her son, because he insists that there are monsters under his bed, but he discovers that it is true and begins to realize that a terrible being entered his home through the pages of a book childish.

Directed by Jennifer Kent, this Australian film starring Essie Davis, Noah Wiseman and Daniel Hanshall has an excellent message about family loss and an excellent sample of the genre capable of racing our pulse and taking us off sleep.

And Babadook it doesn’t give you goosebumps, I don’t know what will, because it definitely has the ideal script and visual for a supernatural movie.

7-. The Conjuring 2 (2016)

The spell 2 tells the new adventures of Ed and Lorraine Warren who are the investigators and demonologists of all the paranormal. This time, they enlist the help of a woman with four children who lives in a house that is plagued by evil spirits.

Directed by James Wan and starring Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson, this film is chilling from start to finish, much scarier than the previous one, and excellent every time.

6-. He’s behind you (2014)

It’s behind you introduces us to Jay, an 18-year-old girl who has a sexual experience with her boyfriend in the back of a car, but then her partner leaves her tied to a chair and explains that he has passed on a curse that spreads through of sex. The spirit adapts to different ways to harass her and pursues her slowly and silently, but unstoppably and will not stop until she is killed.

Directed by David Robert Mitchell and starring Maika Monroe, it is a film that will make you uncomfortable from start to finish, will make you nervous and will make you look over your shoulder.

5-. Paranormal Activity 1 (2007)

Of course, this top had to be the first installment of Paranormal activity. The story centers on a newly married couple who move into their new home, but are disturbed by a supernatural presence that they manage to capture through security cameras.

Directed by Oren Peli and starring Katie Featherston and Micah Sloat is a film that will make you jump more than once from your seat. Unmissable in every aspect, as well as the only one that really worked in the saga.

4-. The Devil’s Legacy (2018)

Better known as Hereditary, a family that suffers the loss of their grandmother; Annie, her daughter, tries to forget the problems she had in the house where she grew up with her mother, but everything starts to go wrong when her daughter starts seeing ghosts.

Directed by Ari Aster and starring Alex Wolff, Toni Collette, Milly Shapiro and Gabriel Byrne is a film that will make you feel all the drama, terror, suspense and displeasure. You will be completely marked with this story.

3-. The Conjuring (2013)

The first of the very successful installments of the Warren Universe, The spell It was the one that opened the doors to the world of supernatural terror again in the cinema. It introduces us for the first time to Ed and Lorraine, a married couple who are dedicated to hunting demons and paranormal phenomena. His first case was in the 70s when a demonic entity attacked a family, the Warrens do everything in their power to control them, but many things can go wrong.

The spell creates the Warren legacy and shows us characters that years later we have been able to see in other installments of the franchise.

Directed by James Wan and starring Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson is a simmering story, intriguing and with good jump-scares that will make you jump out of your seat.

2-. The Night of the Demon (2010)

The Night of the Demon or better known as treachery He introduces us to Josh and Renai who move to a new house, but their son has a terrible accident and falls into a coma. To save him, his father must enter the world beyond to rescue him.

Directed by James Wan and starring Lin Shaye, Leigh Whannell and Patrick Wilson, this is a hair-raising feature film with solid and very interesting moments of horror.

1-. Sinister (2012)

We hit # 1 with one of my favorite genre movies of this decade. The story centers on the new project of a writer of criminal stories, Ellison, who is in a bad streak, to get out of his pond he decides to move to a house with his family where terrible accidents happened and he wants to investigate, but everything goes away of control when he realizes that he is faced with something supernatural.

Directed by Scott Derrickson and starring Ethan Hawke is a film that will make you sweat with fear, definitely an excellent way to present us with a supernatural script that is not entirely predictable and accurate, the deductions of science and the pulsations of the volunteers.

This is the top of the best horror movies according to science, how many have you seen and which ones will you see this Halloween night?
